Evenbead is double-entry bookkeeping that runs on your hardware or ours, lets AI agents post only within limits your accountant sets, and moves you off QuickBooks Desktop with a report that ties out to the cent.

Why Evenbead
Three things your current books don't do
Most "QuickBooks alternatives" compete on price. Evenbead competes on who owns the books, who is allowed to change them, and whether the move is safe.
Books you own
Run Evenbead on your own computer or office server, or let us host it. Either way the books are yours.
Self-hosted, hosted, or on a box in your firm's office
Export everything at any time: SQL dump, JSONL or Parquet
Reading your own data is never metered
Agents that work under your approval
Your own AI tools can categorize and post, but only inside rules you set. Everything else waits for a person.
Per-agent dollar thresholds; owner's equity always needs a person
Approval queue with approve, edit or reject, and a reason
Tamper-evident audit trail: which agent, which model, who approved
Leave QuickBooks Desktop without losing history
A free export tool reads your company file through Intuit's own SDK, on your machine, and brings the history across.
Trial balance checked period by period, to the cent
A tie-out report you can hand to a client or a reviewer
Old history kept as a read-only record, not rewritten
For accounting firms
Close more clients with the same team
Evenbead is built to be sold through firms. The idea: one bookkeeper supervises agents across many clients, and reviews only what falls outside the rules.
Multi-client consoleEvery client in one login, with what's waiting, what's unreconciled and who's closed for the month.
Approval queueAgent proposals by client, with the full balanced entry. Approve in batches; reject with a reason that stays on the record.
Scoped keys and kill switchesEach agent gets its own revocable key, limited by client, accounts and amount. Stop one client or the whole firm at once.
Period locksSoft-lock a month to stop agents; hard-lock it so nothing posts. Only a CPA can reopen, and the reason is recorded.
Tax handoffTrial-balance exports mapped for Lacerte, UltraTax CS and Drake (planned).
The console is being built now. The agent loop shown here runs today against a real database; we walk firms through it live on a call.

How migration works
Off QuickBooks Desktop, with proof
The risky part of switching is not knowing whether the numbers survived. So every migration ends with a report that says they did, or says exactly where they didn't.
Export on your machine
Run the free Evenbead export tool on the Windows computer where QuickBooks Desktop is installed. It reads the company file through Intuit's SDK, with your licensed copy. We never crack or decode .QBW files.
Check the bundle
The export is a plain, documented bundle that stays on your machine until you choose to import it. Lists, transactions and history are all in it.
Import into Evenbead
Accounts, customers, vendors and transactions come across. Old history is kept as a read-only legacy record, so nothing is replayed or rewritten.
Tie out to the cent
The trial balance is compared for every period. If any account is off by a cent, the migration is marked failed and the report lists the differences.
Run in parallel, then switch
Keep QuickBooks for a month alongside Evenbead. Switch over when the month closes the same in both.
Status: the export tool is in design and will be tested first on Intuit's sample company files, then on real files with pilot firms. QuickBooks Online import is planned after that.
Proposed pricing
Three ways to run it
Nothing is for sale yet. These are the prices we're testing with firms. Tell us which one fits; joining the waitlist doesn't commit you to anything.
We'll email you when there's something you can try, and ask a few firms to pilot it first.
We store only what you type here, to plan the pilot and contact you about Evenbead. No cookies, no tracking, no sharing. How we handle it.
You're on the list
Thanks. We'll email you when there's something to try. If you run a firm and want to pilot Evenbead, reply to that email and we'll set up a call.
FAQ
Straight answers
Can I use Evenbead today?
No. Evenbead is pre-launch. We're talking with accounting firms and picking a few to pilot it. Join the waitlist and we'll tell you when there's something you can try.
What's actually built?
Working today, with automated tests:
The ledger: double-entry enforced by the database itself, amounts stored in whole cents, posted entries that can't be edited (only reversed), period locks, and a hash-chained audit log you can verify offline.
The agent interface: a REST API and an MCP server with dry-run previews, duplicate-proof writes, approval thresholds and per-agent keys.
An end-to-end demo of the agent loop on synthetic data (the one shown above).
Not built yet: the web app and firm console, bank feeds, the QuickBooks Desktop export tool (in design), and the hosted service.
Who owns my data?
You do. Self-hosted and firm-box installs keep the books on your hardware and make no outbound calls you haven't turned on. On any plan you can export everything at any time, and reading your own data is never metered. AI features run on the deployment's own hardware by default; ledger data isn't sent to third-party AI services unless you choose to.
Are these prices final?
No. They're proposed prices we're testing with firms. Which option you pick on the waitlist helps us decide. Pilot firms that pay get setup help and their price locked for the first year.
Do agents post on their own?
Only routine entries inside the limits you set for that agent. Today, anything over its dollar threshold, anything touching equity, a low-confidence guess, or an entry into a soft-locked month goes to the approval queue instead. Next on the list: payroll and tax accounts, new counterparties and period-end entries. Every change records which agent and which model made it, and who approved it.
What do I need to migrate from QuickBooks Desktop?
A Windows computer with your licensed copy of QuickBooks Desktop and the company file. The export tool uses Intuit's public SDK and runs on your machine. For files without a working QuickBooks install, we plan a hands-on migration service.
What about QuickBooks Online?
An importer for QuickBooks Online is planned, using its API and report exports, with a clear list of anything QuickBooks Online doesn't let you export.
Is Evenbead affiliated with Intuit?
No. QuickBooks is a trademark of Intuit Inc. Evenbead is independent and built clean-room: we don't copy QuickBooks' screens, reports or code.
